The Tahoe National Forest is proposing to allow Class I E-bikes on 143 miles of trails. There are currently 103 miles of routes within the Tahoe NF that are currently open to Class I e-bikes. 115 miles of the proposed 143 miles are currently open to non-motorized use mountain biking and hiking. Recent analysis from the National Park Service shows that Class I e-bike use creates no additional impact, and it is encouraging to see some enlightened District Offices of the US Forest Service are updating their discriminatory e-bike policies.

24 miles of non-motorized trails were previously approved and have yet to be built. 3 miles need maintenance and 1 mile needs to be re-routed.

The U.S. Forest Service will accept public comment through October 7, 2024. This is the scoping phase and an environmental assessment will be released later on before a decision is made.
