We are excited to announce the release of the Lost Trails Guidebook Volume 3. The Lost Trail Guidebook series is one of the ways that we showcase spectacular backcountry trails that we are fighting to keep open for the public to enjoy. From the soaring cliffs of Labyrinth Rims in Moab to hidden gems in Arizona’s Black Canyon to secluded two-track routes in the San Rafael Swell, we have shared some of the best trails we’ve found while doing field research for our legal fights.

Many of these routes lead to spectacular viewpoints, forgotten canyons, and memorable primitive backcountry campsites.

In Volume 3 of the Lost Trails Guidebook we focus on 22 trails that are located within 10 proposed or recently designated National Monuments. We would like to thank Trails Offroad for sharing content that made this guidebook possible, and we would like to thank those who sponsored the guidebook to help offset production and printing costs.

We are sharing these trails, because they are the kinds of trails that are most often closed to public motorized access after National Monuments are fully implemented with their Monument Management plans. In just one monument – the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in Utah – the monument plan closed 1.2 million acres to public motorized recreation access.

Monument supporters work hard to make the public believe that monuments won’t limit public recreation access. But we’ve learned from hard experience that this isn’t true. Public lands should be enjoyed by all Americans, and we want you to go explore and enjoy these trails.

When you fall in love with these places, we know you will join us in our fight to keep them open for you and for future generations.
