To meet the water needs of their growing population, the City of Bend, OR is planning to purchase parcels from the USFS under the Townsite Act. For the first time in 35 years, USFS is updating the management plans for the Blue Mountains region in Oregon and Washington. Initial plans propose to stop issuing recreation residence tract permits, consider over 700,000 acres for Roadless Areas, and only maintain a fraction of the already-established roads.
