Support the Outdoor West Virginians with Disabilities Act (SB 754)

Senate Bill 754, introduced in the 2025 West Virginia Legislature, by Senator Mark Maynard, would create the Outdoor West Virginians with Disabilities Act—a crucial step toward making the state’s public lands more accessible to everyone, especially those with disabilities.

This bill requires state agencies to prioritize updating motor vehicle and travel management policies to ensure public lands remain open and accessible. It protects roads important for recreation—including hunting, fishing, camping, and off-road vehicle use—and ensures road closures can’t happen without clear justification, public notice, and the chance for comment. It also helps maintain and expand access for emergency response, fuels reduction, and disability access.

Why This Is Good for West Virginia:

  • Promotes accessibility for West Virginians with disabilities and mobility challenges
  • Protects public land access for outdoor recreation, an important part of our culture and economy
  • Supports rural communities that depend on outdoor tourism and hunting/fishing seasons
  • Ensures transparency and public involvement before roads are closed
