Aug 1, 2025

BLM is proposing to allow Class 1 e-bikes on the non-motorized Lamoille Summit Trail System in Nevada. BRC supports this as Class 1 e-bikes are only pedal assist, thus, expanding access to trails while maintaining the spirit of non-motorized trail use. Add your support in the form below.

Why you should submit here, even if you already have elsewhere!

We keep them honest. If everyone only comments through the government/agency site, we have to take their word on how many comments were received. By submitting through BRC, we create an independent record of our community’s response that can’t be buried or under-reported.

We protect your voice. If this fight ends up in court, having our own record of submitted comments means we don’t have to wait a year or more for a government agency to turn over documents. We can move quickly with proof that thousands of you spoke up.
We keep you in the loop. When you comment through our site, we can send you updates on what comes next. If you only use the government/agency site, you’re depending on them to tell you what happens next — and they won’t.

Double coverage matters. Even if you’ve already commented through the government/agency site, submitting through ours makes your voice count twice — once in their system, and once in ours. That way they know the OHV community is watching and tracking every move.

For years, BRC has been trusted to run action alerts like this. Thousands of members and supporters have used this system effectively to defend access to public lands. This isn’t about collecting your info — it’s about building the strongest, most transparent record possible to hold agencies accountable.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has released a Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) for the proposed Lamoille Summit Trail System, a 47 mile multi use single track network between Elko and Spring Creek, Nevada. The proposal designates the system as nonmotorized while specifically exempting Class 1 e-bikes from the BLM’s off highway vehicle definition, allowing them to share the trail with traditional bikes, hikers, and equestrians.

Why BRC Supports This Proposal:

Inclusive Recreation
Class 1 e bikes are pedal assist only with no throttle and limited speeds, making them more similar to traditional bicycles. They help older adults, riders with mobility limitations, and families participate more fully in outdoor recreation with minimal impact on trails.

No New Trails, Just Broader Access
This plan does not add any new routes solely for e-bikes. It simply provides access to existing proposed trail alignments, expanding access without expanding the footprint.

Local Economic Benefits
The trails are expected to support recreation based economic growth in Elko County by boosting lodging, food services, and tourism. E-bikes expand tourism potential by welcoming a wider range of users.

Consistent with Federal Policy
Allowing Class 1 e-bikes aligns with Secretarial Order 3376, which encourages Department of the Interior agencies to expand e-bike opportunities as part of inclusive public land recreation access.
