Beas Lewis Flat Environmental Assessment Released: Dispersed Camping Next to Capitol Reef is Still on the Chopping Block

UPDATE: The BLM has released a new environmental assessment for the Beas Lewis Flat campground. While we appreciate the BLM scaling back the plan, after watching them close over 600 miles of public access routes in the area, this plan is still too restrictive. We provide our recommendations below and need your help to save dispersed camping outside of Capitol Reef NP. Comments are needed by September 17th!

Help Save Free, Dispersed Camping Near Capitol Reef National Park

After closing 612 miles of routes near Capitol Reef National Park that led to countless free, dispersed campsites, the Bureau of Land Management is now proposing to build a large developed campground. While BRC is not opposed to developed campgrounds, they should be in addition to— not instead of— dispersed camping experiences. These bikes expand access while maintaining the spirit of non-motorized trail use. Class 1 e-bikes are low-powered pedal-assist bikes with no throttle and limited speeds, making them appropriate for shared-use trails without degrading the user experience.
