One of the first executive orders signed by Joe Biden was Executive Order 14008, which called for federal agencies to lock up 30% of our nation’s lands by 2030. It would be difficult to find an organization that has closed tracked all the different ways that agencies have implemented this executive order to limit our access to public lands than BlueRibbon Coalition.
This is why we were encouraged to see the announcement of the formation of the Department of Government Efficiency. In a Wall Street Journal editorial announcing the launch of this project, Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy indicate that DOGE will focus on three areas of reform: “regulatory rescissions, administrative reductions and cost savings. We will focus particularly on driving change through executive action based on existing legislation rather than by passing new laws.”
They then claim “DOGE will present this list of regulations to President Trump, who can, by executive action, immediately pause the enforcement of those regulations and initiate the process for review and rescission. This would liberate individuals and businesses from illicit regulations never passed by Congress and stimulate the U.S. economy.”
Shortly after announcing this, an X account was launched to publicize the work of the Department of Government Efficiency, and they’ve asked for the public feedback that includes serious analysis of regulations that need to be reviewed.
We have engaged in over 300 federal actions in the last two years, and each one of these relies on a list of questionable executive orders, regulations, and internal memoranda. We are currently working on serious analysis of each of these actions to educate the public, our members, and the Department of Government Efficiency with a roadmap for reversing the lockdown of our public lands that we have seen in the last forty years.
Executive Order 14008 is one of the top targets we will analyzing, and we hope to see the 30 x 30 lockdown of our lands fully reversed.
Because much of the discussion around these issues is happening on X, we are planning to post our analysis and findings to our BlueRibbon Coalition X account: @BRCBlueRibbon.
Many of you have already followed us on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, and with important discussions happening on X we hope you will also follow us there. Be sure to let us know if there are regulations, executive orders, or administrative actions that you would like to see reversed.
If you’re on X already, you can check out the post below and help us spread the word about wasteful spending by the U.S. Forest Service. We think they should be focused on using their funds to manage our national forests – not funneling hundreds of millions of dollars to private landowners.
We’re just getting started, and we are going to be diving deep into hundreds of reforms that will make our public lands more accessible, recreation benefits available to more Americans, and our local communities more prosperous.
