Support the Grand Reopening of our Off-Road Trails in Moab

Sep 24, 2025

After BRC's years-long challenge of the 2023 Moab trail closures, the BLM has released a proposal to reopen trails. We need everyone to sign this action alert & share it! It's taken us years to get here, so, let's not miss this critical opportunity to Save Moab.

Why you should submit here, even if you already have elsewhere!

We keep them honest. If everyone only comments through the government/agency site, we have to take their word on how many comments were received. By submitting through BRC, we create an independent record of our community’s response that can’t be buried or under-reported.

We protect your voice. If this fight ends up in court, having our own record of submitted comments means we don’t have to wait a year or more for a government agency to turn over documents. We can move quickly with proof that thousands of you spoke up.
We keep you in the loop. When you comment through our site, we can send you updates on what comes next. If you only use the government/agency site, you’re depending on them to tell you what happens next — and they won’t.

Double coverage matters. Even if you’ve already commented through the government/agency site, submitting through ours makes your voice count twice — once in their system, and once in ours. That way they know the OHV community is watching and tracking every move.

For years, BRC has been trusted to run action alerts like this. Thousands of members and supporters have used this system effectively to defend access to public lands. This isn’t about collecting your info — it’s about building the strongest, most transparent record possible to hold agencies accountable.

The Bureau of Land Management has released a proposal to reassess to re-open routes in the Labyrinth Rims/Gemini Bridges Travel Management Plan. This plan was originally finalized in 2023 and closed 317 miles of popular off-road routes. BRC filed a lawsuit in federal court over these closures. The decision closed world class routes singletrack such as Dead Cow Loop, dispersed camping over looking the Green River, Jeep Safari routes and many other crucial motorized trails.

The BLM has listened to us and is now starting a new process to analyze many the previous closures. We appreciate the BLM’s commitment to reverse this harmful decision to restrict vital recreation access to our public lands, and they need to hear from all of our members and supporters that these routes need to be permanently re-opened. The BLM released a preliminary draft of routes that will include 148 miles to be re-opened. While this is a great start, there are still additional routes that need to be re-opened such as Ten Mile Canyon. You can look through the interactive map to see the proposals.

As part of their reevaluation of these trails, they are requesting an additional round of public comment to determine the value of these trails. Comments are accepted through October 24, 2025. Effective comments will be customized to include the following information:

  • They highlight the value of specific routes and your personal experiences with those routes – especially for closed trails that are not on the list to be reassessed.
  • They identify additional ways that BLM can mitigate environmental impacts other than closure.
  • They identify additional ways to minimize user conflict without excluding other users.
  • They identify and quantify economic benefits of our recreation use.

It has never been more important to add your voice to this process. We are confident that the anti-access groups will do everything they can to oppose the Grand Reopening of our trails, so we need to spread this far and wide.
