Tucked into the steep, forested mountains near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, lies one of the most popular off-road trails in the Northwest — the Westfork Pinecreek Trail - or Rollercoaster Trail. Built by the multi-agency effort between the North Idaho Trailblazers, Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Bureau of Land Management utilizing Idaho's public OHV fund, this trail provides a unique opportunity for off-road enthusiasts to challenge their skills and their vehicles in a setting where most routes in the area are old logging roads.

But access to this beloved trail is under serious threat.
The main access route to the Westfork Pinecreek Trail crosses a section of private property at the mouth of the canyon — on a road that has been public since 1909. Despite its long-standing public use, the landowner illegally gated the road, blocking public access for over a year. After exhausting all options, the North Idaho Trailblazers took the case to court — and just over a week ago, the Idaho Supreme Court ruled that this road is, in fact, a public road.

But the battle isn’t over.
The county still hasn’t recognized the road as a county road. And now we expect the landowner to ask the county to vacate the road — a formal action that would strip the public of its access rights to public land and hand full control over to the private landowner.
We can’t let that happen.
Tell the Shoshone County Commissioners: DO NOT vacate this public road. It has served the public for over 100 years, and it should continue to do so. Use our action tool below to send a message and defend access to the Westfork Pinecreek Trail for future generations of off-road enthusiasts.
Take action now — keep this road public!
